Sheridan County added another 52 lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours to the 5,589 lab confirmed cases experienced in the county since the pandemic began.

Currently there are 255 active cases in the Sheridan County community, according to COVID-19 Public Information Officer Jennifer Graves.

Twelve patients are currently hospitalized battling the virus. Sheridan County has experienced the deaths of 63 residents from COVID-19.

The Associated Press reports the requirement to get vaccinated against COVID-19 kicks in Thursday for millions of health care workers in about half the states. The mandate is starting first in states that didn’t challenge the rule from the Biden administration. It will take effect later in February for 25 other states that had filed lawsuits. The Supreme Court earlier this month lifted injunctions that had put the vaccine mandate on hold, The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says it won’t immediately resort to penalties for health facilities that have a plan to try to achieve full compliance by their staff.

Sheridan Memorial Hospital staff will need to be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption by March 15.
