The Sheridan County Library System is welcoming Melissa Cook, author of The Call of the Last Frontier, on Sunday March 20, at the Story Branch Library.
Cook will speak at the Fulmer on April 5, at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. that same day. Sheridan County Library System Executive Director Cameron Duff told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program that only a handful of authors have been able to speak at the libraries since the onset of the pandemic and he is happy to see more returning to the practice.
C. Duff
Duff told listeners that Cook has committed to a considerable amount of time with the libraries and those coming to listen to her speak about her book.
According to a synopsis on her webpage, in 1995, Cook and her young family moved to the tiny village of Nelson Lagoon on the Bering Sea coast and later to Prince of Wales Island in the Tongass National Forest, where they measured rain in feet. She discovered humor in unique situations found only in the Last Frontier. Her true story captures the essence of bush life, intriguing neighbors, and life with multiple sclerosis. Historical tidbits are sprinkled throughout this riveting tale where adventure arrived on the Cook’s doorstep daily for 20 years in this world of few luxuries or conveniences.
