This past Monday (May 30th) was not only a rainy day, it was one for the record books.
The National Weather Service in Billings, Montana says the Sheridan area received 2.39 inches of precipitation for the day.
That marks the wettest May 30th in recorded history.
The old record was 1.28 inches in 1937.
Monday’s rainfall total also marked the 7th wettest day in all of recorded history.
The one-day record is 3.32 inches, set on June 3rd, 1944.
Jessie Ludikhuize is the Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator.
He says all the recent rain created localized flooding, particularly in areas south and southwest of Sheridan along the Big Goose and Little Goose Creeks.
“County Road 66, we had some signage earlier on Beaver Creek Road. It does look like some of that water has receded. There’s also some damage that has taken place on Red Grade and County Roads and Bridge are up there with their tractors trying to clear some of that road debris to try to get that roadway open again as soon as possible.”
Flooding has also been reported in South Park along Brundage Lane.
Ludikhuize advises motorists to not attempt to drive through flooded areas.
