Johnson County School Distirct #1 Transportation Director Dennis Zezas, in his recent report to the school board, addressed a bus driver shortage that he thought was improved, but had just become more of an issue for him.
Zezas apologized for not having a written report for the board, explaining he had one started and then everything quickly changed.
Zezas said he feels the distirct may be criticized because they will have to juggle bus routes again this year, but it comes down to doing what you can with what you have.
Superintendent Charles Auzqui reminded the board that finding quality employees is a struggle in all areas of the district, not just transportation.
The transportation department is looking at being creative with options for routes, and also looking into pay and benefits packages to recruit more drivers.
