Proceeds from the gala will go to support the WYO’s operating expenses for the 2022-2023 Season.

Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, Something Rotten was lauded by audience members and critics alike, receiving several Best Musical nominations and hailed by Time Out New York as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years”.

Beginning at  6 p.m.  Saturday, Oct. 15, attendees will enjoy the opening night gala party with food, drink and a costume contest straight out of Shakespeare’s closet. Although any costume is encouraged, the theme for the year’s gala reflects the styles of the decade in which Something Rotten is set, the 1590s.

For those who cannot make the gala, the performance  will run the following week, Thursday, Oct. 20, Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.

Something Rotten is set in the 1590s. Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own-self, be true.

This production has been rated PG-13 and certain themes may be deemed inappropriate by some parents and guardians. Find tickets to this year’s WYO Gala, here.
