Joshua Q. Waits of Buffalo was found guilty of Breach of Peace and not guilty of Interferance with a Peace Officer by jury trial Wednesday in Johnson County Circuit Court.
Waits was arrested and charged stemming from an incident at a city council meeting on July 5 where he spoke to the council regarding his concerns over the price of gasoline and taxpayers paying for police officers driving on patrol, and alleging that officers were using city vehicles for personal use.
Waits became agitated while speaking to the council, and the conversation continued outside of city hall, where Waits became more aggressive while talking to Mayor Shane Schrader and Police Chief Sean Bissett.
Waits was asked to calm down warned a number of times to stop yelling profanities or he could be arrested, but Waits continued to do so until he was finally arrested.
The charge of Breach of Peace carries a penalty of up to 6 months in jail and up to a $750 fine.
Judge Shelly A. Cundiff set the sentencing hearing for January 23 at 11 a.m.
