The Johnson County School Board called a special meeting for Monday evening to award the contract for the boiler replacement project at the Kaycee K-12 School.

The school has had the issue since last year when a problem with the system was discovered that has led to heating and cooling issues in the building, prompting the district to replace it.

A bid opening was scheduled Monday afternoon with the bid award coming at the special meeting later that evening in the District Administration Office.

The district received three bids and accepted the low bid of $294,000 from Apex Mechanical of Buffalo.

District Facilities Manager John Zink was asked about the timeline for construction.

Zink said this project is just the beginning of many needed on the Kaycee School Building.

Funds for the project will be coming from the Major Maintenance Fund through the state, according to Superintendent Charles Auzqui.
