Johnson County Appoints Shelley to Affordable Housing Task Force

Johnson County’s Commissioners have voted to appoint Commissioner Jeff Shelley to a newly-formed group that will work to bring more affordable housing into the communities in Johnson County.

Shelley volunteered to serve on a new Affordable Housing Task Force, made up of residents in the City of Buffalo, Town of Kaycee, Johnson County and local governmental agency members.

The task force was created to look at ways to address the affordable housing issue facingthe county, in response to efforts by Gerald Spiering, who has spearheaded the move to bring local governments, developers, contractors, and investors together to build low-income housing units in Buffalo.

A proposal from one developer to build a 24-unit housing complex on leased city-owned lands was denied by the Buffalo City Council earlier this month.
