Sheridan Woman Sentenced for Aggravated Assault and Battery

A sentencing hearing was held Wednesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for a woman charged with aggravated assault and battery.  Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Sheridan Woman Sentenced for Aggravated Assault and Battery

On June 28, Mele Rigdon entered into a plea agreement with the State where she agreed to plead guilty to the charge of aggravated assault and battery. Rigdon was arrested and charged with the crime for assaulting an individual with a barbell on September 27, 2022. The assault resulted in the victim suffering extensive injuries, including broken bones to their left leg and right arm.

Rigdon was sentenced for the crime at a hearing Wednesday in District Court. Following witness testimony from both the prosecution and defense, District Court Judge Ben Kirven accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached with the State and sentenced Rigdon to not less than 13 and not more than 15 months of incarceration through the Department of Corrections. Rigdon was given 339 days of credit for time served. Judge Kirven also ordered Rigdon to pay $325 in court fees and assessments and $1,500 in public defender fees. Rigdon was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center to await transfer to a facility that will be determined by the Department of Corrections.
