Sheridan College Preparing For Fiscal Cliff When Revenue From Gillette College Ends

Once revenue stops coming in from Gillette College, Sheridan College will need to find ways to cover the costs that the revenue is used for.

At the recent Northern Wyoming Community College Board Of Trustees Meeting, President Dr. Walter Tribley proposed that one way to replace the revenue is to find ways to increase full-term enrollment numbers.

A number of strategies such as increasing digital and distance learning as well as increasing available evening courses were suggested.

Once Gillette College becomes accredited, then all revenue to Sheridan College will end, but Dr. Tribley said the accreditation process takes several years, before it becomes official, thus Sheridan College has some time on its side.

“If we were to look at it today, in today’s dollars, that would be a $2-million unmet cost, that our district would be $2-million more expensive than we are receiving revenue. On-going cost, on-going revenue. So we are looking at that in the future and we have some time to get there to make sure that on-going revenue matches on-going cost so that we have a little bit more revenue than cost.”
