A new policy pertaining to federal funds was an item of discussion at the recent Sheridan City Council meeting. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

City Council Considers Vision Zero Policy

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program is a commitment to achieve zero roadway deaths nationally. The Sheridan City Council this week approved  Resolution 13-24, which supports a Vision Zero Policy and Development of a Complete Streets Improvement Plan. City Public Works Director Hanns Mercer.

Mercer said the grant program funds two types of grants – planning and demonstration grants and implementation grants. Following the approval of the resolution supporting the Vision Zero Policy, the City Council approved a resolution authorizing submission of a Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant application to the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Planning and Demonstration Grants Program for the purpose of the development of a complete Streets Improvement Plan.

Both resolutions were approved by a vote of 5 to 2 with Councilors Andrew Patceg and Kristen Jennings voting against each of the two resolutions.
