WYDOT public meeting on Bighorn Y Intersection Oct. 17

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting beginning at 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 17, at the Hub on Smith concerning a study on Big Horn Y Intersection.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, WYDOT Senior Public Relations Specialist for District 4, Laura Dalles, and District 4 Traffic Engineer Michelle Edwards discussed the intention behind the upcoming meeting and gave information on how to find results from a previous meeting.

The previous public meeting concerns a study performed by a contractor on Coffeen Avenue and East Brundage Lane on Oct. 2.

WYDOT began a study of intersection US 87, WY 332, and WY 335, known as the Bighorn Y intersection. The purpose of the upcoming meeting on Oct. 17, at the Hub on Smith will give WYDOT public insight on the intersection.

The intention of this study is to determine if the department should change the intersection to allow for safer and more efficient traffic flow. 

The intersection has accumulated many reported near-miss accidents and WYDOT receives concerning reports about merging and speeds in the area, mostly in the form of phone calls. Edwards said WYDOT recognized the importance, size and scope of the studies required for the hiring of a consultant.

According to WYDOT, the final report will review existing concerns of the intersection and provide recommendations with the goal of enhancing safety and operations of the intersection.
