A trial date has been set for a Sheridan man charged with alleged methamphetamine possession. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
An arraignment hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court for 30-year-old Charles Case of Sheridan. Case was originally scheduled for arraignment on October 10, but his Attorney Jeremy Kisling, filed a motion with the court to withdraw from representation due to what he described as a “fundamental disagreement on the case moving forward.” District Court Judge Darci Phillips, at the October 10 hearing, allowed Kisling to withdraw from the case and said an arraignment hearing would be rescheduled once Case makes a decision regarding legal counsel.
Case, at Thursday’s arraignment hearing, was represented by Public Defender Stacy Kirven. Case, at the hearing, initially said that he wanted to represent himself, but after a brief colloquy with Judge Phillips, changed his mind and said he’d like to move forward with Kirven as his legal counsel.
Case pleaded not guilty to one count of felony possession of a controlled substance for allegedly being in possession of more than three grams of methamphetamine, and one count of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. Judge Phillips scheduled a three-day jury trial to begin on April 7, 2025. A pretrial conference will take place in District Court on March 6 at 9am. If convicted on both counts, Case faces up to 8-years in prison and fines of up to $16,000.
