This mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom. Wreaths Across America states that their volunteers are the beating heart of the program and work year-round to share their mission and inspire others to join.

With over 2,200 veterans laid to rest in Sheridan’s Municipal Cemetery, dedicated Co-Chairs of Sheridan Wreaths Across America, Bev Leichtnam and Michelle Parker made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to talk about an upcoming event and invite the Sheridan community to take part.

Leichtnam said the nationwide celebration began with a wreath maker who wanted to use his extra stock to honor those veterans in the nation that had passed on.

From this simple act, Wreaths Across America was born and is now a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Sponsorships of the wreaths are purchased by residents by each city in the nation for $17. The public can purchase or sponsor a wreath by calling 307-680-3761. Volunteers are needed to help lay the wreaths as well as retrieve them in January.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday Dec. 14, Wreaths Across America will be at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery to remember and honor veterans through the laying of Remembrance Wreaths on the graves of the country’s fallen heroes and take moment at each grave to say the name of each and every veteran aloud.

Leichtnam quoted English author George Eliot, “Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them.”

Wreaths Across America works to ensure that we never forget.
