Year in Review- Second Quarter

On May 4, 2024, Sheridan High School Principal Scott Cleland contacted the Sheridan Police Department to report an alleged sexual relationship between Assistant Principal Jacob Meyer and a student at the high school. On May 6, Meyer was arrested for second degree sexual assault. The sexual assault occurred at Meyer’s residence on April 19, 2024. A jury would later find Meyer guilty of the crime following a two-day jury trial in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. We’ll have more on that in a future year-in-review story.

A settlement and release agreement between the City of Sheridan and Karo Hamilton was approved by the City Council in early June. Hamilton is the homeowner of the residence at 1050 North Sheridan Avenue that was demolished during the armed standoff in February of this year. The settlement and release agreement that was approved between the City and Hamilton stipulates that the City pay $250,000 to the Wyoming Community Development Authority for the cost and construction of a new home for Hamilton.

City Attorney Brad Thimmesch said the agreement also fully discharges and releases the City, Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, and any other Wyoming governmental entity from any and all claims arising from the events that occurred in February.

We’ll continue the year-in-review series Thursday with a look at some of the top news stories from the third quarter of 2024.
