The Guild is alerting Sheridan’s talented actors to auditions for “Harvey” which will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 4 and 5. Callbacks will be Thursday and Friday, March 6 and 7, beginning at 6 p.m.
According to a press release from the SCTG, playwright Mary Chase won the 1945 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for writing “Harvey.” The story follows Elwood P. Dowd, a New York Socialite who insists that everyone acknowledges his best friend Harvey, who just happens to be an invisible 6-foot-tall anthropomorphic rabbit. Elwood’s sister Veta conspires to have Harvey committed to a sanitarium, but ends up getting committed herself. Hijinks ensue, and “Harvey” shares a heartfelt story of acceptance.
The production will be directed by Kelly Miller-Smart who has a particular connection to this play.
“It’s the first play I ever saw; my dad played Elwood P. Dowd,” she said in a release.
Miller-Smart is looking for 12 actors (six men, six women). Auditioners will be asked to perform cold readings from the script, based on the character descriptions to be provided.
Auditions will take place in the Tandem Rehearsal Hall in the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center. Anyone interested in auditioning can enter through the side door on Brundage and take the elevator or stairs to the 3 rd floor.
Rehearsals will begin the week of March 10, and will run in the evenings. Rehearsals will be held in the Tandem Rehearsal Hall at the WYO and eventually move to the Carriage House Theatre at 419 Delphi Ave., where the performances will take place. Performances will run May 8-11, and 15-18.
The Civic Theater Guild is asking to please follow up on their Facebook page or Instagram page with any questions.
