FAA-mandated mass casualty drill at Sheridan Airport gets positive review

June 21, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

A federally required mass casualty exercise was conducted at Sheridan County Airport on June 7, to evaluate the region’s emergency response capabilities.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, County Commissioner Nick Siddle said he was in attendance during the after action review of the exercise.

Organized by Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize and written by Sheridan County Airport Manager Robert Gill, the exercise included emergency responders and law enforcement from the City of Sheridan, Sheridan County, Sheridan Memorial Hospital, the VA and SC Airport. The scenario evaluated the response to a simulated crash of a CRJ200 passenger plane, the same make and model currently used for air service at the airport.

Siddle was not part of the exercise itself, but did attend the review held at its conclusion.

According to the commissioner, there was one issue discovered during the exercise that will require work to correct.

Exercises such as these are required every three years at the County Airport to maintain certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.
