The Sheridan County Conservation District has its budget set for the 2026 fiscal year.
The budget is set at $1.3 million in revenue and $1.27 million in expenses, which includes ongoing projects at the Old Acme Power Plant, along with fire recovery, monitoring and treatment and water quality monitoring tests to name a few.
District Manager Carrie Rogaczewski says helping with Elk Fire recovery efforts has thrown a new wrinkle into normal procedures, but the District and its Board of Supervisors are trying to do what they can.
“It’s different, it is a new thing for us. We hadn’t really done this type of work before and we’re still trying to kind of learn what that looks like. We have some funding and we have some requests that we’re working through, but until we actually put something on the ground and we’re kind of in that process of trying to get to that point, we’ll know a little bit more.”
In the Spring 2025 newsletter, the District did not receive funding for its USDA Emergency Watershed Protection Program, but did receive funding for some limited preventative mitigation work.
This can include hazard tree removal, and log erosion barriers.
