The dog days of summer are here, but residents can cool off with Sheridan Community Land Trust and Science Kids as you explore nature with “Unplug: Mud, Bugs & Fish,” a free, hands-on event.
Participants will explore what lives in, on and around Big Goose Creek. Attendees will turn over rocks and dip nets to uncover aquatic insects, worms, crustaceans and more. They’ll also seine the stream for fish that typically don’t appear on the end of a fishing line and collect water quality samples just like the experts.
The event is open to all ages and offers an opportunity to learn how to keep local waterways clean and healthy — for people and for the creatures that live in them.
The event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area, located at 14 Lane Ln. in Sheridan.
“Unplug” is free and open to the public, with activities geared toward ages 2 and up.
