Big Goose Creek Walking Tour August 12

August 7, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

Sheridan Community Land Trust invites community members to step into the past with two guided Explore History: Big Goose Creek Walking Tours this August, highlighting how this vital waterway has shaped Sheridan from its earliest days to the present. Guided walks reveal the rich human and natural history of Sheridan’s downtown waterway.

This leisurely, 0.75-mile walking tour explores sites in Historic Downtown Sheridan where Big Goose Creek played a key role in community development—from Indigenous life to industry and settlement. Stops include the Big Goose Creek Buffalo Jump, Sheridan Brewery, Sheridan Manufacturing Company Flour Mill, the Mandel Cabin (Sheridan’s first cabin), and the story of the historic rerouting of the creek.

The dates for the tour will be Tuesday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. and again on Tuesday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Participants are asked to meet at The Hub on Smith, located at 211 Smith Street in Sheridan, for both hikes. They are encouraged to bring water and dress for the weather. SCLT Explore History is free to attend and open to all.

SCLT Explore History will return indoors in September as we welcome Museum at the Bighorns Director, Carrie Ida Edinger, for Artifacts of the Big Goose Creek Walking Tour.
