School will start in SCSD#1 on Monday, August 18. Dr. Jeff Jones, Superintendent, said that would allow them to be done at the end of May.
There are several welcome back events in SCSD#1
He added that enrollment is up, and has been going up each year.
He said they had the fewest new hires that they have had any year, and that they didn’t have to hire any new special ed staff. “That is a testament to our staff.” He added that while the applicant pool is lower than it has been in years gone by, he said they could still fill the open positions with great people.
Jones said that housing for staff continues to be a challenge, and close to half of the staff lives in Sheridan because of the availability of housing is better there, but the cost of housing does not make it easy for the new teachers.
