Johnson County Tourism Association Marketing Director Toby Carrig, in his recent report to the Buffalo City Council, discussed tourism trends internationally, in the US and locally.
He gave specific numbers on some popular destinations.
Carrig said some local spots with a decrease in tourist numbers this year include Devil’s Tower, showing a 9% decrease in July 2025 from last year; and Fort Laramie, which he said is another indicator of people traveling off the beaten path, was down 18.6% in visitors in July, down 10.7% from 2024.
He said they had a cautious revenue projection for the year and believes tourism revenue will be higher than projected at the end of the travel season.
