The Wyoming Historical Society (WHS) is holding their inaugural conference in Sheridan at the Historic Sheridan Inn this weekend. The conference is in conjunction with their 72nd Annual Membership meeting.

Opening the conference on September 12, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and the WHS board members held a ribbon cutting celebrating WHS joining the Chamber.

Beki Speas, President of the Executive board,

Chamber CEO Teresa Detimore was excited to bring the WHS on board with the Chamber.

Speas added that almost 100 people signed up in advance to attend the conference, and she said that registration was still going on Friday. On Saturday, the society hosted several tours around the area, an awards luncheon, and later in the evening they held the president’s gala with guest speaker Bill Yellowtail and music by Jalan Crossland. There was also a silent auction to raise funds for the group.

Although this is the first conference, it isn’t first time the WHS held their meeting in Sheridan, Speas said.

Their mission is to preserve the state’s rich historic past, particularly focusing on bolstering small museums and local history centers facing significant funding shortfalls.

There were several vendors on hand as well to promote their Wyoming history-based products.

Anyone wishing to help preserving Wyoming’s rich history, are welcome to join the WHS.
