Sheridan City Councilmember Bev Leichtnam is inviting the community to take part in a nationwide effort to clean and improve the resting places of U.S. veterans.
Saluting Branches is a national organization whose mission is to honor American servicemen and women by organizing volunteer tree and landscape care on property dedicated to veterans.
Leichtnam said last year’s Saluting Branches event kept her busy, proudly raking compost around the trees at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, the final resting place for more than 2,300 veterans.

The national day of service is Sept. 17, but Sheridan’s Saluting Branches event will be Tuesday, Sept. 23. As local volunteers have already completed work at the Municipal Cemetery, this year’s event will take place at another location, according to Leichtnam.
