On August 26, 2025, 50-year-old Jessie Venable was arrested by the Sheridan Police Department for felony child abuse and misdemeanor domestic assault. At Thursday’s hearing, Venable pleaded not guilty to both of the alleged charges. District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled a three-day jury trial to begin Monday, January 26. A pretrial conference was set for January 6 at 10 am. Venable’s $15,000 cash only bond that was previously set in Circuit Court was continued by Judge Phillips.

Felony child abuse is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Misdemeanor domestic assault is punishable by up to six-months in jail and a fine of up to $750, unless the defendant has previously been convicted of a similar crime, then the jail sentences can be up to one year. Venable has prior convictions of domestic assault, battery and domestic battery.
