Twenty turkeys, 55 pies and enough side dishes to feed a community are being prepared for the 50th anniversary of the Story Women’s Club Turkey Dinner.

Since 1975, members of the Story Women’s Club have offered the small mountain town and surrounding communities the opportunity to share a meal and connect with neighbors, friends and family.

Club members Sue Shrum and Patty Hoover appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to invite everyone to celebrate 50 years of Story community spirit. The annual Turkey Dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Story Women’s Club.

Hoover, Shrum and many other members will spend two days baking and cooking to ensure no one leaves the celebration hungry. Shrum said she has already begun preparations.

The Turkey Dinner is the largest fundraiser for the Story Women’s Club. Founded in 1919, the club has been a cornerstone of the community for more than a century. Its log clubhouse, built in 1930 by men of Story on donated land, continues to serve as a gathering place. Members provide dinner for bereaved families, host cultural arts on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., serve senior lunches on Tuesdays and more.

Hoover said the Turkey Dinner is more than just a fundraiser; it’s community.

On the menu is the classic turkey dinner, with turkey, dressings, potatoes with gravy, vegetables, cranberry sauce and, of course, pies.

Meals are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6–10, and free for children 5 and under. Donations to support the Story Women’s Club and its community work will also be accepted.

For those who wish to enjoy the food but may not have time to sit down, to-go orders are available. Call 307-217-1903 to place one or more to-go orders before 6 p.m. Oct. 5.

The club meets at 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, except in July.
