Antelope Butte Recreation Area and Foundation General Manager John DeVivo appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to share the nonprofit’s mission and how Sheridan families can take advantage of the slopes.
The mission of the Antelope Butte Foundation is to provide affordable and accessible outdoor recreation for children and families in the Bighorn region, with an emphasis on beginners.
With the help of national companies Vail and Boyne Resorts and local support from The Sports Lure in Buffalo, the ski area has built a large rental inventory to ensure gear is available in critical sizes.
DeVivo said the initiative to offer free season and day passes for youth under 18 has led to significant growth in the number of families using the recreation area.

He added that while for-profit ski areas must maintain profitability, Antelope Butte operates differently. As a nonprofit, the foundation focuses on sustainability while keeping costs to the public as low as possible. The goal is to eventually move beyond breaking even to support future capital projects and ongoing maintenance.
