Rev It Up: 3-Poles Adds State-Funded Obstacle Course for Riders

October 18, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

Sheridan County Commissioner Christi Haswell announced that construction has been completed on a new obstacle course for ATVs, dirt bikes and side-by-sides at 3-Poles Recreation Area north of Sheridan.

The county-approved riding area north of Sheridan operates under an agreement with the Public Land Users Committee (PLUC) and has long offered a natural-terrain motocross track, a beginner area and short trail loops. The Sheridan County Commission ratified the PLUC’s oversight agreement in 2020, and trail guides list the venue as open from dawn to dusk, weather permitting. The site is closed during muddy weather conditions to prevent trail damage.

Thanks to a grant and assistance from the Wyoming State Trails Program, 3-Poles has recently added an obstacle course.

Prior to enjoying the area, riders should take into account that Wyoming ORV permit rules remain in effect on enrolled roads, routes and 50-inch trails; nonresidents must purchase a Wyoming ORV permit because there is no reciprocity with out-of-state registrations.

As chairwoman of the PLUC, Haswell expressed appreciation to the State Trails Program for their part in completing the new course that will challenge riders for years to come.
