A budget amendment to accept grant funding was approved by the Johnson County Commission.
Commission Chairman Bill Novotny explained more about the amendment .
The PREA funding is for an audit at the county’s criminal detention center.
According to an earlier Sheridan Media story, the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was passed by Congress to “provide for the analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in federal, state, and local institutions’
Every facility covered by the PREA Standards and subject to the auditing requirements include adult prisons and jails, lockups, community confinement facilities, and juvenile facilities, whether operated by a state, local, corporate, nonprofit authority, or by the Department of Justice.
The commission approved the resolution to accept the funding.
