Sheridan Community Land Trust is inviting the community to join them for a special evening edition of Explore History as they observe American Indian Heritage Month with a screening of “Powwow Highway” — a groundbreaking film recognized in the National Film Registry for its authentic portrayal of Native American life and its powerful cultural impact.
According to SCLT, the film is celebrated for elevating Indigenous storytelling, tackling issues like poverty and environmental degradation, and highlighting spirituality, activism and art while also launching the careers of several Native actors.
Adding to its local connection, Powwow Highway was partially filmed in Sheridan — with community members serving as part of the crew and cast.
Free and open to the public, this presentation by SCLT’s Explore History will be 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Kinnison Hall in the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College.
