Jury Trial Remains Set in District Court for Woman Charged with Multiple Crimes

A jury trial in Fourth Judicial District Court remains scheduled for early 2026 for a woman charged with multiple crimes. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

A pretrial conference for Delia Chavez was held Tuesday in District Court.  A three-day jury trial is set for January 12, 2026. Chavez was arrested and charged with three crimes for an alleged incident on July 12 at a residence in Ranchester. Chavez, at a previous hearing in District Court, pleaded not guilty to the charges of felony unlawful entry into an occupied structure for entering a residence in Ranchester and battering an individual inside the residence, causing multiple injuries to the victim’s head and face area, misdemeanor interference with an emergency call and misdemeanor property destruction and defacement for throwing the victim’s cellular phone in the Rotary Park Pond in Ranchester.

While the trial remains on the Court docket for January 12, it was stated at Tuesday’s hearing that an offer from the State has been submitted to the defendant and it is possible a plea agreement could be forthcoming. If convicted on all three counts, Chavez faces up to 11 years in prison and fines of up to $11,500.

Also from District Court:

An arraignment hearing was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court for 18-year-old Kaeden Smith of Sheridan. At the hearing, Smith pleaded not guilty to two felony charges, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, and one misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension. All of the alleged crimes occurred on July 20, 2025. The burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary are from when Smith and a co-defendant entered into a vehicle with the intent to commit a theft.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled at two-day #3 stack jury trial to begin on April 6. 2026. A pretrial conference is set for March 5 at 10:30 am. Smith’s bond was continued under the same terms and conditions that were previously set in Sheridan County Circuit Court. Each of the two felonies Smith is charged with are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The misdemeanor driving under suspension charge is punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $750.
