News – Sheridan Media

About 28 Sheridan County non-profit organizations recently received a grant from one of the county’s newest public charity groups, in time for the holidays.
The Sheridan Community Foundation awarded its second round of grants, totaling more than $157-thousand, as part of its efforts to build partnerships and its community fund, to support worthy, unmet needs in Sheridan County.
Foundation Board Member Wendy Smith says the Foundation was formed to support and strengthen the Sheridan community through charitable giving and philanthropic education.
“My hope is that they get to know that their dollar is passed on to wonderful people doing wonderful things for our area. Everything from youth, to seniors, really these groups touch everyone in some way. The dollars all come directly from donations to the foundation.”

Media Release From the Sheridan Community Foundation:
The Sheridan Community Foundation awarded more than $157,000 to local nonprofits on Thursday, December 18th, celebrating its mission of supporting the Sheridan community through charitable giving and strengthening it with philanthropic education.
The awards fell into two categories.
The first are awards to the nonprofit organizations that have opened endowment accounts with the Sheridan Community Foundation.
These Agency Partner Accounts and the dollars being added to them are the result of donor-directed gifts primarily given during the Sheridan Community Foundation’s Own the Dream campaign and dinner.
That campaign raised more than $346,000, with approximately $223,000 going toward the SCF’s Community Fund and the rest to Agency Partner Accounts.
The nonprofits celebrating contributions to their Agency Partner Accounts with the Sheridan Community Foundation are the Center for a Vital Community, Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns, The Hub on Smith, Sheridan County YMCA, Tongue River FFA, Tongue River Pathways Project, Tongue River Scholarship Fund and the Yellowtail Fund.
In addition, the Sheridan Community Foundation delivered 28 Community Fund Grants totaling more than $47,116.
This is the second year the Sheridan Community Foundation has been able to award grants from its Community Fund.
“We are grateful to the many donors who have contributed to the Sheridan Community Foundation and therefore to nonprofits in our community,” said Mark Kinner, president of the Sheridan Community Foundation. “We continue to gain momentum in growing philanthropy in our community, showing that every gift — no matter the amount — makes a difference.”
