A change of plea hearing was recently held in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for 36-year-old Lawrence White, an Illinois man who was arrested and charged with theft for fraudulent credit card purchases at a gas station in Dayton on November 19, 2024. White was also charged with theft in Johnson County for making fraudulent purchases at a gas station in Buffalo, also on November 19 of last year. White, at the hearing in District Court pleaded no contest to the theft charge. The no contest plea is a cold plea, which means it was not part of a plea agreement and punishment will be argued by legal counsel at sentencing.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation be completed by the Wyoming Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for February 26 at 9:45 am. White’s bond was revoked and he was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing. White was part of a multi-state tap and pay credit card theft scheme that included multiple co-defendants that engaged in similar crimes throughout the country. Felony theft is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
