Today we continue our look back at Johnson County’s top stories during the last year as we focus on May through August of 2025.

The hospital at the Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo was named a Four-Star Hospital back in May, according to CEO Luke Senden.

He said the ultimate goal is to become a five-star rated facility and he feels that’s what the community deserves.

Johnson County School District One trustees, in May, voted in two new members, Katie Engling and Tamatha Grabin, to replace two that resigned the previous month.

They will serve through 2026, when the next election for school board members takes place.

Buffalo City Works Director Kevin Silbernagel updated the city council on the plan for fixing damage at the baseball field at Prosinski Park.

He said a dugout and a fence were damaged during a car accident and that the city had received quotes on the cost of the repairs, which have been turned into the driver’s insurance company.

Mayor Shane Schrader, in a separate interview, explained that the damage was caused by a driver with a medical emergency.

In August, Buffalo’s City Council asked the police department for information on vehicle thefts that happened in the north Buffalo area a couple of weeks prior.

Captain Garth Nicholas explained it was an ongoing investigation involving other law enforcement agencies.

According to the BPD Facebook page, they are requesting community assistance in the vehicle break-in investigation for the incidents that happened in the areas of Woodman Drive, N. Desmet Ave., and N. Adams Ave. between 8 p.m. on August 14 and 8 a.m. on August 15.

And that’s a look back at Johnson County’s top stories for May through August of 2025.

Tomorrow we will focus on stories from September through December.
