We conclude our year-in-review series today with a look back on some of the top news stories of 2025. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has more.

At a sentencing hearing in October in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan, 44-year-old Marshall McLain was sentenced to 30-50 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor. On February 24the Sheridan Police Department was notified that an 11-year-old female had disclosed to a school official that she’d been sexually abused by McLain. A subsequent investigation by law enforcement concluded that the sexual abuse began several years ago and continued until February of this year.

In November, the Sheridan City Council awarded the West Corridor Gillispie Draw Analysis and Feasibility to Morrison-Maierle in the amount of $353,000. City Public Works Director Hanns Mercer.

The award to Morrison-Maierle was approved by a vote of 4 to 1, with Councilman Steve Brantz voting against the award. Councilman Andy Patceg abstained and Mayor Rich Bridger was not present at the meeting. This phase of the West Corridor is being funded by GPET and Public Benefit funds.

Earlier this month, 24-year-old Israel Melvin, pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded guilty to the charge of murder in the second degree for killing his mother, 64-year-old Leonila Melvin at her home on Gladstone Street in Sheridan on January 7, 2024.  The plea deal is for a sentence of not less than 22 and not more than 40 years in prison. If the Court, at sentencing, rejects the plea agreement, Melvin can withdraw his guilty plea and proceed to trial. Melvin’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 24 at 9 am in District Court.
