The Sheridan City Council met for their first regular business meeting of the year Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
At their December 15 meeting, the City Council voted to table a resolution certifying the final plat of the Bucking Iron Business Park, a County subdivision located within the Joint Planning Area. Property owner Eric Manselle is proposing to subdivide 20 acres into six industrial use lots at 170 East Ridge Road. In April of 2022, the City and County entered into a memorandum of understanding regarding the subdivision of land within one mile of the contiguous corporate limits.
The MOU outlines the responsibilities of the two jurisdictions in reviewing and taking action on development proposals within the Joint Planning Area and stipulates that City staff and the City Council shall have the opportunity to make comments and suggestions on development plans in the area. City Planner Kelly Schroeder, at Monday night’s meeting, provided the details of staff’s recommendations.
The City Council could not come to an agreement on the resolution, as it failed to pass by a vote of 3 to 3. Councilors Jack Wood, Steven Brantz and Andy Patceg voted against the resolution to certify the final plat of the proposed subdivision due to the recommendation that the property owner be responsible for installing over 2,700 feet of waterline that would serve the property. Councilors Terry Weitzel, Bev Leichtnam, and Mayor Rich Bridger voted in favor of the resolution. Councilman Greg Luhman was not present at the meeting. Councilwoman Leichtnam on why she voted to keep staff’s recommendations included in the resolution.
Mayor Bridger said that it’s possible the resolution will be brought back for the Council’s consideration when all of the governing body is in attendance for a vote.
