The Homer and Mildred Scott Foundation is moving forward with the Bridges development, a large-scale community project designed to support nonprofits, education programs and public use in Sheridan County. The effort involves partnerships with local organizations and contractors and aligns with the Foundation’s long-term mission to strengthen community services and quality of life.
Homer and Mildred Scott Foundation Executive Director Jenny Craft appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the Bridges development and its role in meeting community needs.
The project is intended to address gaps in affordable nonprofit facilities, outdoor programming space and infrastructure that supports youth, families and workforce retention. The facility includes homes that were previously used for faculty of the former school that operated on the property. Due to a challenging housing market, those homes have since been updated and now serve as starter housing for Sheridan Memorial Hospital and local school districts to assist with recruiting teachers from across the nation. The gymnasium and conference center have also been improved and are already in use by the community.

Craft said the facility continues to evolve and that Foundation leaders are open to community input on potential future uses of the site.
Through conversations with other nonprofits and the public, Scott Foundation leadership identified a need for shared, low-cost facilities and accessible outdoor spaces that can be used by multiple organizations while responding to growing demands on community resources.
Sheridan Community Land Trust purchased a large portion of the land and designated it as the Big Goose Natural Area. Through its stewardship, the area has been improved and opened for public use.
Construction and site improvements took place throughout 2025 and will continue into 2026. Planned work includes roadway safety upgrades, parking expansion, pathways, flexible-use fields and a pedestrian bridge connecting facilities. Craft said roadway improvements are scheduled to be completed by October.

Craft said the project remains in a planning phase and not all ideas can be implemented, but the Foundation welcomes suggestions from the community.
