The Brinton Museum in Big Horn presents the 2026 Illustrator Show featuring children’s book illustrations by award-winning artist Zak Pullen. Zak Pullen: 21st Illustrator Show is on display in the S.K. Johnston, Jr. Family Gallery beginning February 5 and continues through March 30.

Nationally acclaimed for his children’s book illustrations, Pullen lives and works in Casper, Wyoming. He has exhibited in major juried competitions and is considered one of the best illustrators currently working in the nation. In 2026, he is again included in the prestigious Society of Illustrators exhibition in New York City. This is Zak’s third solo exhibition at The Brinton Museum since 2014.

The 2026 Illustrator Show highlights original paintings from three recent children’s books. In The Christmas Ass (2020), he collaborated with writer Jana Enloe. It is a story of a young rabbit by the name of JJ who learns a lesson from his father about humility and gratitude during Christmas.

The Thinkers book illustration included in The Brinton Museum show is an exhibition loan from the Science Zone: Casper Science Museum in Casper, Wyoming.

A Home for Steamboat (2024), with text by Casey Rislow, tells the story of Steamboat, the horse that could not be tamed across the rodeo circuit but finally finds a home with Grandpa Charlie and his granddaughter, Lena.
