The Wyoming House of Representatives approved House Bill 10 on second reading Thursday morning. The bill, titled “sexually explicit materials in libraries-requirements”, is intended to regulate and restrict material that is deemed sexually explicit in school and public libraries. Wyoming Library Association President Cristine Braddy says that they remain steadfastly opposed to the legislation for several reasons.
Braddy says that if the legislation continues to move forward and ends up being signed into law by Governor Mark Gordon, her big concern is for school libraries.
Braddy says the bill could potentially impact access to some of the classic novels and cause a litigation issue.
The legislation must be approved by the House one more time before it heads to the Senate for consideration.
