The Buffalo Police Department is preparing for a busy summer season as community events, outdoor activities and tourism increase across the city. Buffalo Police Department Chief Sean Bisset appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, saying that during the warmer months officers support community gatherings while maintaining public safety throughout the city.

Buffalo hosts a number of seasonal activities that draw residents and visitors, including programs at the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, events at the Johnson County Fairgrounds and the annual Longmire Days celebration held each summer. Many of these gatherings bring larger crowds into downtown Buffalo and nearby parks, requiring coordination between city staff, event organizers and law enforcement to ensure traffic control, pedestrian safety and emergency response planning.

Bisset said the department also uses the season as an opportunity to connect with residents and promote safety awareness, particularly as more people spend time outdoors. Officers often work with the community to address issues such as bicycle and e-bike safety. One program that worked well in the past allowed BPD officers to reward children practicing good bike safety.
