Sheridan Police Department Captain Tom Ringley appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to inform the community of the 2025 statistics on drug seizures and drug related cases investigated within the city, highlighting trends officers encountered during the past year.
Ringley explained the data reflects crimes investigated by the department and supports several public safety goals, including reducing property crime, violent crime and alcohol related incidents. In a previous report, Ringley noted that every incident in which officers used force to gain control of a suspect involved individuals who were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Although alcohol was a factor in many cases requiring officers to use force, he did say most of the city’s establishments serve responsibly.

According to the Captain, marijuana related cases increased from 109 in 2024 to 124 in 2025, a 13.8% increase. Methamphetamine cases dropped significantly from 48 in 2024 to 25 in 2025, a 47.9% decrease. Cases involving other drugs including cocaine, heroin and LSD increased slightly from 22 to 23 cases, a 4.5% rise. Investigations involving seized drug paraphernalia also rose from 136 to 139 cases, an increase of 2.2%. Drug paraphernalia items include anything used to process, prepare or inject/inhale drugs of any kind.
With such a small sample size, some statistics can appear high, but Ringley said that overall enforcement activity did increase in 2025. The SPD statistics provided by the Captain show 261 drug arrests, up from 227 in 2024, a 15% increase. Total drug involved cases rose from 256 in 2024 to 271 in 2025, a 5.9% increase.
During those investigations, officers seized marijuana in 123 cases, including approximately 19 ounces of plant material and about 20 fluid ounces of marijuana vape products. According to the Captain, these are not high amounts of marijuana or its processed products as in many cases the citations and seizures occurred during routine traffic stops.

Police also reported 25 methamphetamine cases involving approximately 70 grams, two cocaine cases involving eight grams, and six fentanyl cases involving both pills and liquid substances.
