This April, the Wyoming Children’s Trust Fund, Prevent Child Abuse Wyoming, and the Wyoming Department of Family Services are are highlighting the importance of strengthening families and communities to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The 2026 Child Abuse Prevention Month theme, “Pinwheels of Possibility,” reflects the role we all play in supporting children and families before challenges become crises.

Pinwheels of Possibility highlights what happens when families are supported early and communities invest in prevention-focused solutions that partner with parents, reduce stress, strengthen relationships, and help children thrive.

“Every child is born full of promise, and families are the experts on what their children need,” said Nicole Neider, executive director of the Wyoming Children’s Trust Fund. “When we listen to families and invest in prevention, we open the door to safer, healthier futures for children and communities.”

Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to elevate the evidence-based, community-driven strategies that prevent harm before it occurs, including home visiting programs, economic and concrete supports, and policies that promote positive childhood experiences.

When families receive the support they need, children benefit.

“We know that the best way to keep children safe is to support families early. When we work together to reduce stress and barriers, strengthen connections, and make sure families have what they need, we can we can reduce risk, strengthen families, and help children grow up in safe and stable environments,” said Department of Family Services Social Services Senior Administrator Kristie Gordy.
