Johnson County Approves Closeout of Crazy Woman Bridge Project

Johnson County’s Commissioners approved and accepted a closeout of the county’s bridge project at the bottom of Crazy Woman Canyon.

County Road and Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer explained what the closeout involves.

Pehringer said the money came out of theCounty Road Fund, and the refunded money will need to go back into that fund.

The US Forest Service announced that Crazy Woman Canyon, Forest System Rd. 33, would not open for the 2025 summer season due to bridge replacement projects expected to run through September 2025.

The Johnson County project, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, involved replacing the bridge located at the bottom of Crazy Woman Canyon.

The road through the canyon was reopened on September 12, 2025.
