Community members are being invited to participate in the “Eyes Up: Lives Ahead!” pedestrian awareness campaign and community walk later this month in Sheridan.
The campaign is the result of many residents in the Sheridan community coming together in solidarity with public speaker, author, coach and podcast host Kate Gladdin, who lost her mother, Julie Fitzsimons, to a tragedy on Sheridan’s Main Street.
In late May 2025, David Johnson hit and killed 65-year old Fitzsimons with the vehicle he was driving, while he was making a right turn from West 5th Street to North Main Street.

Downtown Sheridan Association Executive Director Zoila Perry and Gladdin appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the campaign, which focuses on improving pedestrian awareness and encouraging safer habits for both drivers and walkers.

As part of the campaign, a free two-mile community walk is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, beginning at the Historic Sheridan Inn. Registration is appreciated.
