On June 15, the Sheridan City Council adopted a resolution that regulated the early placement of chairs along the parade route in downtown Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter recently spoke with the Mayor to find out how everything panned out.
Setting chairs out the night before the WYO Rodeo Parade is a time honored tradition in Sheridan. Over the last several years however, chairs were being set out earlier and earlier, prompting Sheridan Police Chief Travis Koltiska to recommend action from the City Council in the form of a resolution.
The resolution that was approved stipulated that no person shall place chairs, benches, coolers, signs, or other personal property upon any public sidewalk, curb, street, alley, or public right-of-way along the parade route prior to 5:00 pm on the day immediately preceding the parade and that any item placed in violation of the resolution may be removed by authorized personnel without prior notice and placed at a location of their choosing where the owners can pick the items up. Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger says he was very pleased with how things went.
So what some feared could have been “chairmageddon” 2026, ended up being a lesson in civility.
