The Sheridan County Commission recently sat down with the Johnson County Commission at their meeting in Buffalo to discuss Sheridan County’s water in Lake DeSmet and determine how each county would address a future request by Sheridan County to release some of their water in the reservoir, and to determine what permits Sheridan County’s water should be allocated to.

It was also asked that Sheridan County designate one representative to work with Johnson County and the Lake DeSmet Operations Department moving forward.

Attending from Sheridan County were Commissioners Christi Haswell, Lonnie Wright, Nick Siddle, and Holly Jennings.

Johnson County Commission Chairman Bill Novotny detailed what both governmental agencies hoped to accomplish during their discussion.

After some discussion, the commissioners decided to allow both county attorney’s offices to formalize a draft agreement between Sheridan and Johnson Counties for them to review, approve and/or make changes to, and move forward.
