Judge Hoop today dismissed the murder charge filed against Earl C. Reed in Ranchester, finding there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the case. Mr. Reed did not deny that he shot Ed Hughey on the morning of April 29, but the judge found that the defendant was justified in the action.

More than 150 children registered today in the pony campaign being sponsored by 24 Sheridan businesses. Each child receives 1,000 votes when he or she registers at a business, and the child who receives the most votes will win a pony, harness and buggy.
