Halloween is a little over a week away, and the Sheridan Police Department shared some tips to keep trick or treaters safe while they haunt the city on their search for candy.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, SPD Lieutenant James Hill advised listeners on the primary safety concerns during this time of year.

Hill also advised parents to always use crosswalks and remember to look both ways when crossing busy streets with tiny candy seekers in tow. Hill also asked that residents behind the wheel be extra vigilant during the night of trick or treating. Drivers can take a second look during stops to ensure the way is clear.
Other tips include decorating costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors. Glow sticks and flashlights can be worked into the theme of a child’s costume and provide much needed light in dark areas. When possible, use costume ideas that utilize face paint as opposed to sight obstructing masks.
With these tips, the Sheridan Police Department and Sheridan Media hope to make Halloween a little safer, so everyone can make it home safe and focus on the real important matter of the night; eating candy.
