Antelope Butte is a story of passion and drive. After 44 years of service, the ski area closed in 2004. It may have remained closed and would have slipped into memory if not the formation of the Antelope Butte Foundation in 2011.

This band of friends and outdoor enthusiasts wanted to revitalize the ski area and create a centerpiece of mountain recreation in Northern Wyoming. In 2016, the Antelope Butte Foundation secured the lodge, lifts, garage, and maintenance shop. Since that time, the Antelope Butte Foundation has transformed this once all but forgotten area into a winter and summer destination for residents and travelers.

Antelope Butte is getting ready for this season’s opening day, flooring is going into the lodge, trails and runs are being examined, cleared and groomed as the area waits for the snow.

According to Antelope Butte Executive Director John Kirlin, instructors are ready to begin teaching the next generation and some first timers of previous generations their love of winter sports. To help with the day to day operations, the Antelope Butte Foundation has hired a new general manager. Kirlin shared a little about the manager during his appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse.
