Bear Lodge Resort

January 6, 2022

Bear Lodge Resort is a year-round full-service resort. We are open 365 days a year.

The lodge is owned by Rick and Roberta Young. Rick loves to hunt, snowmobile and ATV so is a great one to talk with about the mountains and the activities they offer.

When Rick retired from the U.S. Air Force, they decided to pursue their dream of owning a mountain lodge in Wyoming. They purchased the property in 1993 and, in just the past 17 years, have done as much to add to the lodge as the original owners did. Most notably, they’ve expanded the number of hotel rooms from 8 to 30, added an indoor pool and hot tub, built a beautiful addition and deck on the dining room, and constructed the popular duplex units.

Bear Lodge Resort is the place to come for great food. They serve three meals a day, 365 days a year. The restaurant is particularly well known for its Sunday brunches, special holiday buffets, and Big Mike’s pies. Big Mike has lived at Bear Lodge Resort and treated guests to his famous pies for over 20 years!

The lodge is a popular winter destination for snowmobilers from around the country, but primarily from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota — and of course Wyoming. Many of the out-of-staters ride the mountain on Bear Lodge’s rental fleet of 40 late model Polaris snowmobiles. Rick and his team are responsible for grooming the trails in the Northern Big Horn Mountains. This, in addition to regular riding and visiting with riders, allows the team to give current and accurate snow reports.

In the summer time, the lodge is booked almost every weekend with weddings, family reunions, and meetings. Guests can try a night in the rustic cabins, an RV spot, motel room, or have all the comforts of home in a duplex condo. Watch out for bears and moose, though! Some things haven’t changed since 1929. The original owners named the property Bear Lodge because there were so many bears around during construction of the cabins and lodge foundation. The bears still like to wander around the RV sites, and moose frequently graze in the pond — to the delight of amateur photographers.

Bear Lodge Resort is located in the Bighorn National Forest under permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Equal Opportunity provider.

Located on Highway 14-A, one of Wyoming’s Scenic Byways.
